How forestry has changed since the 80s

One member sent us a short video by documentary filmmaker Daniel Pierce. In it, he shares a recording from a 40-year forestry manager, who reported how the Forest Ministry (and logging) changed when Gordon Campbell came into power in the 1980’s.

Problems with BC’s new Forest Landscape Plan

During IWTF’s monthly meeting, we discussed BC’s new Forest Landscape Plan to reshape timber and ecosystem management in the North Okanagan. We are concerned that there are too many loopholes with regard to logging.

The provincial government, in partnership with local First Nations groups, are hosting a joint engagement session on Monday, June 8, to gather community feedback on the development of the tmíxʷ naqscn Forest Landscape Plan (FLP). The public open house will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Coldstream Community Hall.

If you plan on attending the meeting, ask many questions!

Protecting caribou

One of our members shared this article from The Tyee, about protecting the Deep Snow Caribou. He noted, “Looks like they are taking a different approach to old-growth logging and permitting. We are the ancestors of those yet to come. This is significant. It is a reminder.”
