This important article, reported by Luke Faulks, focuses on the community of Gun Lake and residents’ concerns about the threat of salvage logging proposed in an area that experienced wildfire in 2023.

“a meta review of research into the ecological impacts of salvage logging found the practice can hamper species that survived the fire, modify rare post-disturbance habitats, reduce the complexity of the ecosystem, impair natural vegetation recovery, facilitate the colonization of invasive species, [and] alter soil properties and nutrient levels.”
