About the Coalition

The Interior Watershed Task Force began in 2023 as a coalition of more than 20 community and professional groups.

We advocate for the protection and preservation of water, primary (natural) forests, and wildlife habitat in Interior BC.

All communities, including Indigenous ones, are under threat from industrial logging. It is threatening water quality and supply, contributing to slope instability and landslides, increasing wildfire risk, negatively affecting public safety and infrastructure, and permanently degrading aquatic environments and habitat diversity.

The IWTF believes we need a paradigm shift in the practice of forestry from timber extraction and tree farms to sustainable forest management, protection and restoration. This redefinition will properly recognize all ecosystem values, including water, soil, public safety, wildlife habitat, biodiversity, and spiritual sustenance.

We are based in the Okanagan and respectfully live and work on the ancestral territories of several First Nations.
